Saturday 24th March, 8:30pm local time, marks the twelfth annual "Earth Hour", an initiative started by WWF in 2007.

The global grassroots movement encourages people to take action on climate change by switching off their lights for 60 minutes, marking a moment of solidarity for the planet.

Earth Hour inspires people across the globe to take action and is an opportunity to reflect on what can be done to work towards a more sustainable future.

Today, as we push the planet and its natural systems to the edge, Earth Hour is our chance to use our power, as individuals and as a collective, to demand and take action to protect this web of life in return for all it gives us. For the benefit of all life on Earth and of our own future.
